Fitness On the Road: Staying Active During Solo Travel
Hello, fellow wanderers! Today, let’s talk about a topic that holds a special place in my travel journey: staying active while traveling solo. For me, maintaining my fitness routine is not just about physical health; it’s also about the exploration and adventure that comes with solo travel. 💕
Fitness On the Road: Staying Active During Solo Travel
Walking: My Primary Fitness Companion
When it comes to staying active on the road, walking is my go-to exercise. Whether I’m wandering through busy city streets or trekking along scenic hiking trails, walking allows me to be fully immersed in the sights, sounds, and culture.
My goal is to walk 6-9 miles a day, dedicating entire days to exploring on foot. It’s incredible how much ground you can cover and how many hidden gems you can find simply by walking through the streets without a clear destination. Plus, walking is an eco-friendly and budget-friendly way to get around—I rarely, if ever, use taxis or ride-sharing services when I travel.
Traveling to Be Active
One of my favorite parts of solo travel is the freedom to tailor your adventures to your interests. For me, that often means seeking out destinations that offer opportunities for outdoor and fitness activities. Whether it’s practicing yoga at Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheater, walking through the majestic Redwood forest, or hiking up Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, I’m always on the lookout for destinations that encourage physical activity and exploration.
In Europe, in particular, I find it easier to stay active due to the pedestrian-friendly nature of many cities.
Making Fitness a Priority
Even when I’m away from home, I make it a priority to incorporate fitness into my daily routine. If I’m staying in a hotel, I’ll seek out accommodations with a gym where I can squeeze in a workout before starting my day. On days when hitting the hotel gym isn’t an option, I turn to alternative methods to stay active. Sometimes, that means packing resistance bands for a quick and effective workout in my room. Other times, I’ll stream a yoga class on YouTube or Les Mills to get my body moving and my blood flowing.
When feeling particularly adventurous, I’ll check out a local yoga studio (quick Google search) or fitness class to experience a unique experience. There’s something incredibly thrilling about stepping onto a yoga mat in a new city/country, especially when they use different terminologies for poses.
So there you have it—my approach to staying active and getting my fitness goals met during solo travel. Whether you’re trying to learn to stay active on the road or looking for ideas, these are an extra layer of fulfillment and adventure to my (personal) solo travel experiences. 💪
