Book Review Round-Up (#25)

Welcome to my monthly Books Review Round-Up (#25)! Last month was short because I had a lot going on. I did a ton of exercise! However, not a lot of walking alone. So, my audiobook count is down and that’s okay. I’m still tracking to hit my goal by the end of the year.

I had a lot of trouble finding books that were enjoyable last month. I started 6 new books but DNF them all.

I don’t want to admit this aloud, but… I’ve realized that I’m burnt out on contemporary romance. 😬

Maybe you’ll understand when I get into the ones below.

Book Review Round-Up (#25)

Please remember that all thoughts are my own and I’m entitled to those opinions! That’s why the book world is so beautiful. There are books for everyone! This also means some books aren’t for everyone too.

Let’s get into my goals breakdown.

  • Listen to 4 audiobooks a month
    • I listened to 2 books this month.
  • Try different book genres
    • I explored a few different categories last month.
      • Contemporary murder mystery
      • Obsessive-compulsive autism spectrum
      • Pansexuality contemporary romance
  • Books with POC as the MC (main character) 👩🏻👩🏼👩🏽‍🦳👩🏽👩🏾
    • 1 out of the 3 books.
    • Aka 33% of the books.

Better Than Fiction

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Format: Audiobook | Goodreads Review | Amazon | Bookshop.org

I’m embarrassed to say this but … I don’t remember a lot of the details of this book. My month was stressful and my concentration wasn’t great however, what I do remember is how much Drew loved her grandmother. I enjoyed how her relationship slowly develops with her half-sister through a mutual dislike of their father. She also has the world’s best friend ever. Jasper literally was better than fiction and because of that I found some of their dialogue cheesy but it was still really sweet.

Plot Twist

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Format: eBook | Goodreads Review | Amazon | Bookshop.org

Ugh, guyssss. I wanted to love this book. It’s my first ARC from Netgalley and it wasn’t for me. It was close but I couldn’t get into it. For me, the characters started out strong. I thought the plot was very contemporary and had many pop culture references. It was also my first book with a pansexuality character.

Even though Dash and Sophie had chemistry, I didn’t feel like it was natural or flowed. They had these absolutely sweet and lovely moments and then suddenly it would turn raunchy real fast. Def check out my goodreads review because maybe this book could work for you.

I did enjoy how one of the main characters we working through alcoholism and getting the support they needed from their friends and family.

The Maid

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Format: Audiobook | Goodreads Review | Amazon | Bookshop.org

I can’t believe it took me so long to read this book cause I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was nothing like I thought it was going to be. Nothing at all! I picked it up thinking it was a romance and then started it and had to stop to re-read the back.

This murder mystery suspense novel through me for a loop and I was here for it every step of the way. I don’t want to spoil it for you guys but I finished this book in 2 days. I was so invested in the story and our main character. Not to mention, I couldn’t figure out if she could be the killer!

Don’t hesitate. Snag this one up!

Short and sweet, darling friends. If you have any murder mystery recs, please send them my way. I’m eager to grab something other than romance this month.

I’ve been meaning to read The Maid ever since it came out. Your review might be the push I needed.

    Happy April!
