Books & Bottles: Wild Love & Matthews 2020 Sauv Blanc

Happy Thursday, friends! Normally I try and post my B&Bs on Mondays but this month was a doozy (per my last post). I also mentioned my lasted obsession with audiobooks. They’re getting me through my daily walks and all of my work projects. So, if you haven’t guessed, this month’s post is: Books & Bottles: Wild Love & Matthews 2020 Sauv Blanc!

As you can tell, it’s easier for me to multi-task right now. When it gets less busy and stressful, I’m hoping to get back to my old bedtime reading habits/routine. For now, I’m perfectly okay with walking and listening for now. Especially with the last 4 books I’ve listened to!

Something I wasn’t expecting was how I felt about this months wine. It’s a unique combo so, let’s get into it!

The Book: Wild Love by Lauren Accardo (Forever Adirondacks #1)

I’m super excited to chat about my book this month. Not a lot of people have read it on goodreads and I picked it up from the library because it was available asap (which I needed while I was driving). I enjoyed it so much I found the author on twitter and I can’t wait to get the next book in the series. Hopefully I can listen to that one too.

I’ve been having a tough time finding series I really enjoy. This was definitely an exception.

A brief synopsis:

Sydney is from a less than middle class upbringing who is trying to shine in New York City. One day, it all comes crumbing down. The law degree she worked so hard for isn’t what she thought she’d love. She caught her (now ex) boyfriend cheating on her in their bed. She’s looking for the fastest out she can find, which happens to be upstate New York where her mom lives and owns a less than successful adventure bookstore. Between the two of them, they’re up to their eye balls in debt.

Insert Sam, the superrrr toned local mechanic who helps Sydney out. Both meet on a cranky day and are off on the wrong foot. Sam’s ex is a recovering alcoholic so he watches himself and is easily triggered by others around him who over do it. Which is easy in a small town with not a lot to do.

Honest review:

I really enjoyed this book! Though the first time the couple was together 😉 they were in the woods and I’m still trying to figure out how realistic that is. It’s honestly better than some/most of the other scenes depicted in other books. Other than that, I found Sydney to be going through what every 20 something year old would be going through if they’d found out they’d been cheated on.

I too would have had one too many drinks with the girls before crawling into bed. I also would have gone down a rabbit hole of depression. What I enjoyed about this book was how Sydney found a way out of it. She replaced all the bad things in her life with so much good. She definitely came out on top.

So, not only is this a love story but also a story about finding yourself.

LSS: Long story short: it’s cute. Plus, the sexy scenes are adventurous, fun, open and honest.

Book rating: 4 stars

I absolutely loved listening to this book. Even though Sam was going through his own stuff, I loved how Sydney kept it his and listened and took his opinion into consideration. I don’t know if they would work out in real life but I sure liked their story via audiobook.

Matthews Wintery 2020 Sauvignon Blanc

The Bottle: Matthews Winery 2020 Sauvignon Blanc

Well… I promised you I wouldn’t lie to you. This wine was a miss for me. I love that this Sauv Blanc was aged in 100% stainless steel, primarily because I’m not a use french oak kind of gal but other than that… it was too tangy for my taste.

What I’m tasting:

Tangy pineapple with an acidic finish. I almost puckered on this one.

What I’m smelling:

Sweet citrusy fruits and a little apple.

Overall wine grade: C-

For the record, I love Matthews Winery. They have a fantastic tasting room in Woodinville that’s got great outdoor seating. I asked my sister to pick up this bottle for me but I think I confused it with a table wine from 2019. I’ve tried to find it on their website without any luck. I was really hoping this would be a great Christmas Eve wine but it missed the mark for me.

However!! I think this would make a terrific wine to add to a sangria. I often find sangria to be too sweet and this would be perfect for a nice blend with peaches, sweet raspberries and oranges. 🙂

Alrighty! That’s another B&B for the books! Tell me what you’re trying to read before the year is up! Can’t wait to hear what’s in your cupboards and bookshelves.

Til’ next month! 🍷
