All the Books I Didn’t Read Traveling This Year

Starting this post out strong with: this is NOT a fail. This post is completely understandable considering our current worldly situation. I am not a… traditional reader. I love books, used books especially, and I do most of my reading while I travel on a plane or in airbnbs with spotty wifi, etc. There hasn’t been a lot of travel this year… hence why I’m sharing All the Books I Didn’t Read Traveling This Year.

First of all…hello! I know, mid-December and where the heck have you been, Alli? Turns out… this is a very busy time of year at my 9-5 and I’ve been a bit stressed and, to be frank, depressed. Really depressed. I was looking through my previous blog posts and apparently it’s not uncommon for me to completely check out during this time.

For that, I’m hoping you’ll be understanding, friends.

This year has been rough for my reading. Instead of going the book route, I have been glued to my phone and laptop. I’ve read just about everything humanly possible on the Cold War while binging The Americans and a surprising amount about the various grape regions that wine come from.

In total, I finished maybe 3 books. Which would normally be embarrassing but this year I discovered audible and podcasts. So, really, I’ve finished 7 books (if you want to get technical). 😉

Going forward, I’m now trying to read a chapter a night from a book. It’s harder than you think, especially getting into bed at 9:15 to be asleep by 10. I’ve noticed it really helps me relax for the evening though.

Okay okay!

All the Books I Didn’t Read Traveling This Year

  1. The Clocks by Agatha Christie – Currently working through and it is TOUGH. How did I go my whole life thinking the mysterious Agatha was an American? No, She’s a Brit. Through and through.
  2. Wedding in December by Sarah Morgan – Also trying to work through… tbd if I can get through it before Christmas… (outlook, not so good).
  3. Merry Ex-Mas by Shiela Roberts – I’ve had this book for two years… still haven’t gotten to this holiday book.
  4. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan – Watched the movie a thousand times… just not the book.
  5. Becoming by Michelle Obama – I swore to read by the end of the year … not.gonna.happen. Haven’t even hit page 1.
  6. Untamed by Glennon Doyle – Nopeeeee. I was gifted this book and everyone is in love with it but I am just struggling to crack the spine when I have all these other books.
  7. Carolina Moon by Nora Roberts – I started this book back in … February? and couldn’t get through it after ending it with a guy I was seeing. Standby if I can get it done by the end of the year.
  8. Last One Home by Debbie Macomber – Started this book twice… just didn’t have a lake house or a cabin deck in the sun to vast in while reading.
  9. The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware – A suspense book that I can’t wait to dig into … maybe I’m just struggling with the romance novels this year.
  10. Poorly Made in China by Paul Midler – Got this at one of the free little libraries in my neighborhood and was interested to see if it would touch on fast fashion … someday I’ll find out.

2021 Book Goals

As you can see, I’ve got TEN books… but these are just the ones on my night stand. I did finish When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole a few weeks ago, along with The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena. I’ve decided that in the new year, I want to read ONE book a month. That’s my goal.

I know, there are all these readers out there that are finishing 30-50 books and… I’m just not one of those gals! Hopefully I’m not alone. 😅 I’ve been taking photography courses and learning new skills on youtube, this year, instead.

The big question is: are the 12 books above going to be my 2021 reading list?

…. hahaha! I really don’t know! I’d like to find a few true adventure books or a book on Australia’s surf culture or…. Italy’s leather mills. The world is my oyster, right? If you can think of a unique book or anything full of culture, let me know.

I’ll follow up with my 2021 reading list in January so, again, give me your recs! 😉
