4 Books on My Autumn Reading List to Get Out of a Reading Slump

This year has been weird. Mostly because I went from reading over a hundred books a year to maybe 12, and that annoys me so much. Since starting a new job though, I’m working on a new routine. I love audiobooks, and that’s been great on my walks during my lunch breaks, but I miss physical books desperately. So, I’m trying a lot of new things, including devices, and I’ll give you guys an update soon. For right now though, here’s my wildly diverse autumn reading list, because when you’re in a reading slump, you just never know what’s going to work and what’s not.

Grim Tidings by B.K. Borison

Every book by this author I have liked, so I’m immensely excited to pick this one up. I’m hoping this will be the one to clear up my reading slump. I follow Sara Carrolli, and she recommended this on her recent Fall TBR and I just had to pick it up. Since I’m No. 109 on the line for the library’s eBook or the audiobook, I gave in and went to Barnes & Noble this afternoon for it. I was so excited, I started it on my commute home, and I’m happy to report, I’m already invested.

This is about a grumpy grim reaper and a grumpy guardian angel who are also enemies to lovers. She’s tired of death in the Department of Hauntings & Spirits, and he’s trying to figure out why she’s stepping on his toes in his line of work. It looks too cute not to grab, and it’s the perfect time of year to pick it up.

The Good Daughter by Karin Slaughter

I’m currently listening to this one on audiobook, and I just found out Peacock picked it up and it’ll be coming to streaming next month! So, once again, I’m invested. Not to mention it’s actually really good.

It’s about two sisters who went through an immensely traumatic experience as teenagers. As adults, they’re estranged but come back together after one gets caught up in the middle of a shooting that seems more and more impossible as everything unravels. Both lawyers and both with messy, unfulfilling lives. It’s suspenseful, and I’m excited for the show!

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

I’m really behind with this book. Everyone is talking about it, and there’s a whole movie. It sounds great, and everyone raves about it. I find reading books that have media attached to them easier to pick up when you’re in a reading slump. So, I think this one will be a fast read, but I’m not a Sydney Sweeney fan, so I’m conflicted on the movie.

Either way, I did start this one last night, and it’s an easy read. This is my second Freida McFadden book. I’ve read she writes similarly to Alice Feeney and Lisa Jewell, both of whom I love and had a tough time putting down.

Daughter of No Worlds by Carissa Broadbent

A fantasy that has rave reviews across every platform, I’ve been wanting to pick up this book for a long time. It’s also a book I’m determined to pick up a physical copy of. The synopsis reads a “…sharp and scrappy heroine on a deadly quest and the handsome rebel who may be her only hope”. Need I say more? I’m excited for this one. I think autumn is the perfect time for fantasy books.

In truth, I would love more than anything to add 5 more books to this list, but right now, I barely trust myself to get through these ones. That said, please share what you’re reading below. I’d love to add some new books to my winter list and really carve out time to work through some of them in the new year.

Happy reading, friends!
