All the Audiobooks I Listened to This Year (Q3/22)

July 2022

I listened to the bulk of my books in July. It was a huge fitness month for me as I walked everywhere and tried to soak in as much sun as possible for the month. I’m really proud of how many books I got through but I also recognized I had less of a social month because of it. After, August and September (especially) really went down in numbers.

Getting His Game Back by Gia De Cadenet

This book surprised me. I’m happy I went into it blind. That said, I loved Nessa and Khalil. The ending was tough to swallow, primarily due to my personal problems with depression. Khalil’s depression is relatable. However, his depression is an extreme version of my own and it had me in knots.

This book is about choosing happiness and the people who love you/want to be around you.

The Good Girls Guide to Rakes by Eva Leigh

Thou was unprepared for the level of vulgarity and sexy talk that unfolded in this book… and I loved it.

Was this my favorite historical fiction novel? No
Did I love the slow burn of the best friend’s sister-to-lover trope? Hellz yes

Celeste is bored out of her mind in modern-day society and has caught the eye of an Earl, who she couldn’t be less interested in. Insert, Kieran, a title-less third son, and her older brother’s best friend. These two are so much fun.

If You Ask Me by Libby Hubscher

This book is a lot about getting to your lowest of the low and learning and growing to become someone you like again. It’s cute. Just be prepared for awkward encounters and going through the worst. There’s next to no spice but good chemistry. See my goodreads review for Trigger Warnings.

Below Zero by Ali Hazelwood

This novella was short and sweet. Our MC, Hannah, doesn’t tend to get attached and Ian (MMC) is clearly an exception.

I felt like the characters could have gotten to know each other a little better. Maybe because this is a short story so I’m just craving more. Instead, I felt as if they had an intense physical/chemical attraction which, yes, was super fun. Who doesn’t love a good animalistic attraction? Amiright? But I felt like there was a lot of pining and a lot less talking and getting to know each other.

The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett

This audiobook was like nothing I’d ever experienced. First of all, Sandra Oh is a narrator and so is the grandpa from Gilmore Girls! That said, I enjoyed this book but there was quite a bit of misogyny. I definitely tried to take the book as it was for the time period. I love the suspense and the music. The mystery of whether or not their going to figure out who truly has the black falcon and those who did the murders!

This is a different genre I’d never explored before and I def want to try others.

The Rogue of Fifth Avenue by JoAnna Shupe

Ummmm. Yeah, I liked this book but it was a bit slow at first. It finally picked up a bit in the middle after there was a murder! Which, sadly, was more of a trial of domestic abuse.

I did enjoy the characters though and thought they had good chemistry but I don’t know if I’d be interested in the other books.

Dating Dr. Dil by Nisha Sharma

Oh gosh, I’m not ready to explain how smutty this book was. I was blushing and sweating while listening to this one.

I’m just going to leave a link to my Goodreads review because I don’t know if I can write about this on my blog. However, I enjoyed the characters, especially Kareena. Who is relatable, independent, and strong.

Love From Scratch by Kaitlyn Hill

This book was such a treat. I loved the sweet love story that unfolded and the small redemption at the end with a plan to move forward where everyone wins. Ugh. Just read it. What a surprise and delight.

Fair warning, this is a YA book with a lot of examples of sexual harassment toward women in the workplace. I feel like everyone man should read this novel as each situation was a great example of unequal corporate life between opposite sexes.

Savvy Sheldon Feels Good As Hell by Taj McCoy

Oh, Savvy! Savvy decides she’s going to change her life for the better and discovers, along the way, that even what she wants for herself may not bring her happiness. I adored her boss and how he helps evolve her role to better fit her lifestyle and not force her to change completely for a promotion.

Heartbreak For Hire by Sonia Hartl

This book had a really fun plot and I genuinely enjoyed the secret identity life of Brinkley. She’s supposed to be an Administrative Assistant but, since her terrible verbally abusive/cheating boyfriend broke up with her, she’s really a Heartbreaker at Heartbreak for Hire. I loved all the ridiculous scenarios Brinkley got herself into. All the sleazy jerk men who were taking advantage, manipulating, stealing, and generally hurting women, get completely destroyed.

I loved her relationships with her best friend, and the other ladies she works with. I adored how hopefully she felt around Mark, it was the first time feeling anything for a man in over 2 years.

August

We made it! That was a lot of books. This month was much less.

The Bride Test by Helen Hoang

Well, just like Helen Hoang’s The Kiss Quotient, I loved this book! I adored Khai. I loved listening to his point of view and how he became stuck on such small tasks, but being stuck made complete sense when he worked it out. The way he and Esme started to gravitate towards one another and their instant attraction but hesitation made their chemistry more interesting and meaningful. They support each other in everything.

Two Houses by Suleena Bibra

As someone who graduated with a degree in Art History, I’m extremely biased to this book. That said, this is an enemy to lovers trope that came to a screeching halt when Gavin makes a bet with Priya and if he wins, they go on a date. Priya has always had a crush on Gavin and they’ve known each other since elementary school but he’s always been her sworn enemy and the two have pretty much competed since they left. It was cute!

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

This was a YA fantasy book and it was predictable but fun. Mare is exactly the woman I hope the next-gen is raising. Fierce, loyal, open-minded, and hopeful for the future. She is cunning and though learned her lessons the hard way, it’s not her fault. It’s something to admire.

Mr. Wrong Number by Lynn Painter

I listened to this whole book and it wasn’t for me. At all. I couldn’t stand the main character. She was a classic narcissistic liar and this book gave me anxiety. I walked faster while listening to it because of how stressed I was.

Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas

This one was wishy-washy for me. I wanted to love it but it was realllllly slow. Especially at the beginning. However, I loved the Wallflowers and Annabelle’s sweet MOTHER, who very clearly would do anything to keep face and not lose the family estate for her children. Trigger warnings in my goodreads review.

September

Again, I got covid last month so I only got through 2 books but both were great. I started two others but they were returned to the library before I could finish them. I put them on hold again and hoping I get them next month.

The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager

Holy smokes! I didn’t see the ending coming at all and because of it, I recommend this mystery thriller to anyone who loves a plot twist out of left field. This would be a great Fall read! Full Goodreads review here.

The Accidental Pin Up by Danielle Jackson

I had a lot to say on this one so I’m just going to link my Goodreads review for you. In short, I loved how mature the characters were. They were all older professionals and I loved the friendships in it.

Dang, this was long. If you got through it, I don’t deserve you.

Have you read any of these books? What audiobooks are on your list for Autumn?
