Books & Bottles Series (#21)

Hello, my darling friends! Today’s Books & Bottles Series (#21) is a mystery thriller. Which, I think it’s fitting because it’s Halloween today! This is my second book in this genre and I’m proud to say, it didn’t give me nightmares. It just over thought everything.

As for this month’s bottle, I’m taking a drinking hiatus. After getting covid last month, I’m working on my health. So, for the bottle, I’ll be reviewing a kombucha! 🧘‍♀️

Books & Bottles Series (#21)

I keep asking myself “Do I even like Mystery Thrillers?”. Nevertheless a Murder Mystery Thriller. I overanalyze everything and it becomes exhausting. One thing I noticed though, I have no reason to ever re-read this book… because I already know the ending. So, I’m happy I ended up borrowing this copy from the library and not buying it myself.

But, it had me wondering how many thriller books get recycled or thrown out for this reason. Anyway, on to the thriller itself!

Short Back of the Book Summary:

Jess needs a fresh start. She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less-than-ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there.

The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge

Everyone’s a neighbor. Everyone’s a suspect. And everyone knows something they’re not telling.

Honest Review: 4.5 Stars

I was pretty nervous jumping into this novel. The last thriller stressed me out, and it was via audiobook. That said, I crushed the majority of The Paris Apartment in 2 days. I had to know the ending. I just had to know what happened.

Here’s what I loved… I guessed about 50% of the book! That said, I loved that I didn’t predict the ending. Honestly, I think I would have been disappointed if I had figured it out. I’m clever, but I love getting thrown for a loop. I think I rated this book so high because I didn’t guess the full ending.

I don’t want to spoil this book in a way but I will say, it was heavier than I thought. A lot of the deep dark, underground, secrets of Paris.

If you like thrillers or are looking for a good one to start with, this might be a great fit. I loved how quick, and short, the chapters are and how you got multiple POVs.

The Bottle: GT’s SYNERGY Raw Kombucha Fall Edition’s – Living in Gratitude

As said in my intro, I’m on a bit of an alcohol detox this month. So I thought I would share my absolute favorite kombucha because it’s only out this time of year.

It’s the Synergy Raw Kombucha’s Fall Edition and it’s SO FREAKIN’ GOOD. Why do I like it? It has all my favorite Autumn things in it. Pressed Pink Lady Apple, Turmeric, Carrot, earthy Cider Spices, green tea, and black tea!

I know it’s only 16oz but it can last me 2-3 days. You don’t need a whole lot and it’s a great way to start the morning or have a mid-day pick-me-up. It even smells like Fall and it makes me so happy.

If you haven’t guessed … A++.

Thanks for reading this month’s Books & Bottles, friends! I’d love to know what book is next on your TBR so leave them in the comments below.

Love that kombucha! It’s such a good flavor.

I really loved this book. It is a lot darker than Lucy Foley’s previous thrillers, but in a good way. As much as I loved The Guest List and The Hunting Party, the two books were too similar and this one felt like a fresh direction for her.

I do not share your mixed feelings about mystery thrillers. At times (usually when I’m stressed), that’s all I will read! 🙂

Thank you for saying that, Stacy! I picked up The Guest List and I was debating between it and The Hunting Party. It’s great to know they’re similar. So, maybe I’ll start with that one and see how I feel about the next. 😊
