All the Audible Books I Listened to in 2020
Happy New Year, my adventure loving friends! As you can tell, it’s been a busy time but I’m ready to hop back on the blogging band wagon and excited to hit 2021 running. The first post of the year isn’t about any recent trips, more on that in a bit, I’ll be chatting about All the Audible Books I Listened to in 2020.
Reason being? Well, in order to see my family this year, we all quarantined at home for the allotted 14 days. So, that is what I did. Two whole weeks in December was dedicated to catching up on my favorite Netflix series, learning a LOT on YouTube and, of course, listening to Audibles.
Why Audible?
Honestly, at first I couldn’t justify Audibles. I went for years thinking “why would I get that when I could just borrow a “book on tape” from the library. However, when the BLM movement really hit home for me, I couldn’t get my hands on the book White Fragility. I also really thought me and that book… “are you actually going to be able to READ this book?”.
I knew deep down this book was going to be really eye opening for me and it might be best to listen to it then read it. Especially when I could commit and hour a day to walking and educating myself at the same time. So, my one month free membership began… and never ended.
Why? I immediately went on my road trip after I finished that book! I drove from Seattle, WA to Napa, CA and back again. A lot of hours of just music and phone calls if I didn’t have more books to listen to.
It’s been a real game changer and I’ve got quite a few books in 2021 that I’m excited to dive into.
Right now, Amazon is actually have a promo: 40% off your first 4 months.
In my opinion, that’s a steal of a deal. I, personally, have the premium membership… which is the normal membership. However, there is a lower tier but you don’t get credit toward books. You only get access to Amazon’s limited library. Again, I can’t remember enough and you can get more info here.
Onto the books!
All the Audible Books I Listened to in 2020
White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo and Michael Eric Dyson
The book that started me on my audible obsession. This book was some tough love but it was genuinely worth the listen to. I learned more in this book that I probably have since college. Absolutely worth the use of a credit and I recommend to anyone trying to learn about systematic racism in America.
Wild by Cheryl Strayed
This book has been popular for some time. I genuinely have a kinship with this novel after listening to it while actually hiking a part of the PCT. I listened the whole way from Brookings, Oregon to Napa, CA and back to Seattle. Super adventure inspiring.
The Summer House by Lauren K. Denton
Talk about starting all over again! Lily Bishop finds herself with divorce paper from her husband who has left without a word. She finds it in herself to push pass her emotional struggles and finds her self-confidence through becoming the hair stylist she thought she’d never be and also finding love again. There are some super sweet moments between her and Rose who is like a surrogate auntie.
Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe by Heather Webber
If you love your novels to be filled with a little bit of magic, this one is for you. I listened to this book while camping this summer and also walking through a lot of neighborhoods. Anna Kate’s granny has passed and the mystery and tradition of the making of blackbird pie can only pass down through the women in the family line. Only problem is, Kate is due for Med school in the Fall. Super sweet book that’ll have your heart filled with family and a little love.
Murder in an Irish Village by Carlene O’Connor
A really fun mystery novel that has a touch of romance in it. I absolutely adore Siobhan and her siblings as they try to uncover who killed the man that was found dead in their very own cafe. You’ll second guess every single character in town and have you hoping she runs into the copper through out every chapter.
The State of Affairs: Rethinking Infidelity by Esther Perel
Okay, YES – this book is all about affairs, studies and history of people who have affairs and what can cause men vs women to do about having an affair. No, I am not having an affair, I’m simply nosey AF and this book 100% totally delivereddddd. Esther Perel, the therapist behind the book also reads the audible. It’s fascinating and gives you a real in depth look at humanity, natural reactions and the truth about monogamy. If you are going into a new relationship or having issue in your current one, I cannot recommend this book enough. It’ll really test your own boundaries on the subject.
2021 Audible Goals:
I have quite a stack of books lined up for 2021. However, I’m such an active person, having audible really makes sense for my lifestyle so I’m going to keep using it! Especially since I’m on a roll with my current book.
My first goal is to use my 1 credit every single month and use it to either walk or listen to in the car. My second goal is to have a healthy mix of fiction and non-fiction. Truth be told, I genuinely love listening to non-fiction and find it really hard to physically read from a book these days. With that said, I AM making it a priority this year and I hope it’s something I can stick to!
