Sewing Goals for Q4 2022

As you know, I’ve been working on a lot of challenges this year. A lot of audiobook and physical book challenges. There have also been some fitness challenges as well. Today I’m sharing my Sewing Goals for Q4 2022 because I noticed that writing it out and blogging about it keeps me on track!

Sewing Goals for Q4 2022

First up is what I’m planning to accomplish and what techniques I want to work on.

  1. Zippers (short, long, & hidden zippers)
  2. Lining up & fixing the plaid dress I made last year
  3. Fixing the waistline and bringing it up on the plaid dress
  4. Adding pockets to everything
  5. Creating a crop top & high waisted pant set
  6. Not buying any more patterns & pattern hacking what I have

Next is what I want to make!

Corduroy Skirt

🧵 Simplicity Pattern 1370 & Rosery Apparel’s Pocket Guide

I’m really looking forward to doing this pattern but I’ve had a really hard time finding sustainable fabric in the color I’m hoping to make this skirt out of. I honestly might give in and head over to the local fabric store. We have a few independent stores in the city. I’m trying not to buy from JoAnn’s and support as local as possible, if I’m unable to find vintage, estate sale, or thrifted fabric.

This will be a fun skirt to make though. I’ve used this pattern to create the pink shorts talked about in my last sewing post.

Plaid Dress

🧵 Fixing up Simplicity Pattern 8551

I made pattern C last year and I learned so much from that project. The number one being… you need to match up your lines when sewing a plaid or patterned fabric together. I like the overall color, material, and warmth of this dress but I do not love the waistline or hemline on it. First of all… it’s crooked 🤦🏼‍♀️. It also isn’t lined up, as mentioned above.

I think I could be taken in by 2-3 inches and hemmed up. It’s very large and I’d like to get rid of the ties, surprisingly enough.

This is the second Simplicity pattern that I’ve made that doesn’t match the measurements on the back of the pattern. I tend to forget I’m petite (5’3) and these are modeled on women that are 5’9-5’10… I really shouldn’t be surprised.

So, the goal is to doctor the dress-up in time for cooler weather!

& Other Stories Dupe Dress

🧵 Pattern Hacking McCall’s Vintage 2386 & New Look 6068

This dress is exactly what I’ve been hoping to add to my wardrobe but… not in denim. I love the style of this dress! Like, to a T! However, the pattern isn’t what I’ve looking for. I’m looking for a more 70s vibe to it and I’m hoping to get a floral pattern.

The issue I’m coming across is in the fabric. I want to make it out of an apparel fabric but I currently only have craft fabric. Additionally, the fabric pattern of one of them is exactly what I’m looking for. I also think I’d like to pattern hack this dress using dark brown corduroy. I think it would look great with my hair and perfect with my 3′ booties. So, stand by for what I decide to do!

Crop Top & High Waisted Pant Set

McCall's M7937

🧵 McCall’s M7937

Another dilemma! I can’t decide if I want wide-leg pants or the tapered pants that go with the pattern. I already will need to pattern hack the pants because I want to add pockets and I don’t think I love the zipper on the side. However, the zipper is hidden and that’s something I want to work on this quarter.

Again with the craft fabric but I think if I line both the top and the pants with a soft silk fabric it might make the set more charming and professional… not to mention warmer for the Autumn & Winter. I found a lovely vintage estate sale cotton craft fabric that I am dying to create this set out of. It’s also a dark floral but it’ll go really well as a matching set!

Really looking forward to all of these projects this quarter! Are you working on any special hobbies and crafts during the Fall/Winter months? This is my favorite time to hunker down and craft away because the rain set in.

Happy crafting darlings!
