Sustainable Gift Guide for Travelers
This year, a lot of my community has been focusing on shopping local and going sustainable this year. After reading an article on why we should skip wrapping paper, it got me thinking about other sustainable ways to do Christmas this year.
The first being: Only buying gifts your friends and family actually need.
If they don’t need anything, well, a gift card or even a plate of homemade cookies should do the trick! I think we need to end this stigma of gift cards not being “personable enough”. In actuality, it’s the most personable gift you can give! The recipient is getting exactly what they want.

Sustainable Gift Guide for Travelers
I’m breaking this post out into two boxes: Essentials and Practical.
If you’re having a hard time finding an alternative to gift wrap this year, I’m making Christmas bags out of fabric this year. This way, I can use every year going forward. I have tons of bags around my apartment and use a few of them as shoe bags, every time I travel. I also use one as a travel laundry bag. Food for thought, if you’re looking to get clever!
Sustainable Essential Gifts
These are physical items that can be used time and time again. Example, I’ve had the same Passport holder/organizer for the past 8 years. My sister bought it for me as a Christmas gift and I love it. I never travel without it.
Small Travel Wallet or Organizer
Passport Holder
Suitcases
Weekenders
Sustainable Practical Gifts
These are items that are not necessary but easy travel stresses or help in a jam.
TSA Pre-Check or Clear
This is the gift that keeps on giving. Plus they will have it for up to 5 years. I highly recommend Global Entry but they are 3 and a half months backed up so expect to get it in March.
Lounges
Priority Pass has been a leading contender in the lounge space for a few years now. They offer 1,300 airport lounges that make arriving early to the airport more desirable.
Reusable Water Bottles
Reusable Tote Bag

I’d love to know if you can think of other sustainable travel gifts for our fellow adventurers. Leave them in the comments below if you think I missed anything crucial.
I cannot wait to hear what you guys are getting your family and friends.
Happy Gifting! 🎁

These are wonderful gift ideas Alli! I couldn’t agree more that a gift card is a great present. I have valued it when I have been given one since I did not collect a bunch of things I had to change to something I really want.
I loved the travel wallets you suggested. I might gift myself one this Christmas!
