Matching Face Mask and Pants

Well, darlings. It’s official. I’m just that much extra in month 4 of self isolation. That’s RIGHT, ladies and gents, I made a Matching Face Mask and Pants… and I regret nothing.

I love fabric. The texture and wild patterns. Literally anything floral. I have a problem when it comes to buying too much fabric. However, I’m also frugal. This, particular fabric, was literally in the clearance bin for $2 a yard. One glance… I had to have it.

That’s right, did you just do that math? This matching set cost me about $6 to make.

Another fun fact, I notoriously save my fabrics. I also always keep my scrapes. 🤦‍♀️

Why? …I wish I knew. In the rare case of a global pandemic, though, it sure came in handy.

The Mask.

To be honest with you, I don’t want to over saturate the internet with another mask tutorial. So, I will just share a few resources I read/watched to make my own:

Seriously, this mask took me about 15 minutes to make. Since then, I’ve actually purchased the metal nose bridge strip. I plan to add that this week. Since then, my sister and two others asked if I’d make them an extra mask, so at least my fabric stock will finally go to good use!

The Pants.

I used Simplicity Pattern 8457 to make these pants. The fabric is light and breezy so they’re great for cool summer nights. I’m actually very excited to wear these out to an outdoor wine tasting when the vineyards reopen.

I will say, having a matching set is awesome and definitely a statement. I won’t lie though, both items took some time to make: I’m a bit rusty.

If I’m being honest, I pick up my sewing machine about once a season. I do basic mending or hemming around those times. When we got into this pandemic, I literally dropped all of my crafts and really started to work more on the blog and just trying to stay active. It’s nice to get back into crafts.

So, even though I struggled, I’m thrilled with the way it set came out.

What if I can’t make my own?

Well, that’s okay! I’m actually putting together a list of ethic and sustainable face masks for an upcoming post. I recommend getting a mask in colors that match your everyday outfits. Black (obviously) goes with everything and is great for the office (when we all get to go back). However, I personally like white. It’s a tough to keep clean but it’s light and crisp for summer.

I also recommend getting a few chic designs that you can easily dress up or down. We really don’t know how long we’re going to be in this for and in the future, if I feel the least bit ill I’ll be wearing a mask out.

This pandemic has really changed my idea of kindness in the world. The face mask has become a symbol of caring for others and un-selfishness. It’s shares a “we’re all in this together” united front that I’m loving. So in case it’s unclear, I’m pro-mask all the way. 😊

Let me know what you think and if you end up getting a matching set too.
