What to do in Westport, WA

Hello darling friends! I touched based last week on getting out of town for a nice weekend get away with my family. It was one of the first mini vacations I’ve taken where I didn’t spend the whole time thinking about my blog, taking photos or working. I simply hung out with my family, ate very well, drank a little and really took in my surroundings. Which is why today’s post is all about my little Westport, WA getaway.

To start, this is a very sleepy little town. There’s a lot of state parks to explore, fish to be eaten and wildlife to enjoy. There’s one grocery store, one way in and out of the town and one of the best ways to enjoy a nice relaxing family gathering.

What to do in Westport, WA

There’s not much and what was presented to us was laughable to me and my Dad. However, in the end we did do quite a few and genuinely had the best time. The first thing I like to do, before traveling, is check out the monthly events calendar of the city I’m visiting. For Westport, WA, well they’re wasn’t much. Actually the only event set up for our particular weekend was a 30 mile Garage Sale (which we checked out in our neighborhood!). So we didn’t have super high expectations for the weekend and this was perfect for us. Here’s what we did!

  1. Walk the Town. Though my siblings and I look a lot alike, we differ on a lot of things. My adventure seeking nature isn’t always matched. The only person interested in getting out, stretching their legs and walking this tiny fisherman’s town was my Dad. We tricked my Mom into going but she ended up loving it. There’s a darling candy shop, a cannery with the freshest canned tuna you can buy, as well as a few restaurants that we didn’t check out. The weather was breezy with a nice Fall chill but totally worth it for the views.
  2. Whale History Lesson. Oh what fun we had exploring our Airbnb! It was built on a little oasis of wonderland. This place is filled with books on the local history. This includes all of the shipwrecks from 1888 to present around the Bay City area and it’s history with whales. The good and the bad, but history none the less. There is also the Westport Maritime Museum in town. If you’re looking to learn and see a full whale skeleton.
  3. Bird Watching. Yup – I said it. Haha! My Dad and I rolled over laughing but, in the end, we all found ourselves with binoculars trying to figure out what bird was what on the bird chart. We got a kick out of it and loved the view even more. So, find an airbnb with a view and binoculars!
  4. Visit the Westport Winery. We honestly had no idea that this region is know for harvesting cranberries. Well, not until we drove past the many cranberry roads, an Ocean Spray plant and cranberry wineries. Unfortunately, the Cranberry Road Winery didn’t have cranberry wine. They’d already sold out. We were even more bummed to learn we didn’t have time to visit both wineries. Which is why this is definitely list. Next time, Westport Winery, we’re coming for you!
  5. Hang out with your family. Guys, life goes by abnormally fast. It’s 2019… it’s end of the month, September, 2019. Which is just baffling to me. Puzzling, games (yes, drinking games apply), West Wing binge watching, talking, laughing, meal cooking, picture taking, social media sharing, reading, dessert eating and just walking together can make your vacation a little more special. Remember time is precious. We get a limited amount, so make memories and have fun.
