I’m Done With Plastic Clothes and I’m Knitting Natural Fibers Instead

It’s no secret that I’ve been slowly trying to replace my plastic wardrobe with all natural fibers. It feels like pulling teeth sometimes, especially knowing those polyester pieces are more than likely heading to a landfill rather than being recycled. It sucks and it hurts my eco-friendly heart.

That said, like most millennials I know, I’m on the hunt for natural fiber basics this autumn. Everything feels expensive but I also know these pieces are infinitely higher quality than anything polyester or rayon, which are really just marketing names for – you guessed it – plastic. So I may not be buying a lot this season but what I do invest in will be worth every penny.

As many of you know I’m a knitter and even though it’s very slow fashion and the materials aren’t cheap, every piece I’ve made is still holding strong. I am so excited to knit more this autumn, especially because… *drum roll please* – there is a commute in my future. Hint hint, stay tuned! 👀

On an organizational note, I’ve also decided to print out every pattern I own and put them in a binder from the thrift store, right alongside my sewing patterns. I’m so tired of hunting for them! How do you organize yours? I’d genuinely love to know.

Tee Shirts

I didn’t realize how many tee shirts I wear until I looked at what I grabbed for every morning. I can’t be surprised. They’re the ultimate layering piece, easy enough for the office and equally at home or at a Mariners game. Mine are worn to absolute shreds so it’s time for an upgrade, particularly this autumn when a slightly thicker tee is exactly what I need. I have a few patterns saved in my Ravelry for the season:

Autumn in the PNW is one of my absolute favorite seasons. It stays warm and beautiful until mid October and then that crisp air starts creeping in. Tank tops are my summer staple but they also layer so wonderfully in autumn under a blazer or cardigan and make the most elegant shells for office attire. I’ve been putting off making these all year and I genuinely don’t know why. This is the perfect season to finally start!

I have so many sweater patterns in my stash, I barely know where to begin but I want to make at least three this year. It feels ambitious but I’m almost always cold during autumn and winter so these feel essential. I’d love to slowly swap out my old synthetic ones for 100% merino wool or an alpaca blend.
