My Sewing and Knitting Goals for 2024
Hello, my adventurous friends! I’m diving into 2024 with the same enthusiasm I had in 2023 for knitting. In case you missed it, I started knitting in October 2022 and really got into it when I decided to knit my first sweater. It turned out to be a fantastic addition to my Fall and Winter wardrobe, keeping me warm during my 4-week European trip. Now, I’m excited to keep the crafting momentum going into the new year.
I’ve got some cool projects lined up with smaller needles, and I can’t wait to share the progress with you. Let’s make 2024 a year filled with creativity and cozy knits! Eep! 🧵
My Sewing and Knitting Goals for 2024
Though I’m very excited to chat about knitting, let’s start with sewing because that one will be a little more curriculum-based this year.
Sewing Goals for 2024
Back to Basics with Teaching:
This year will be fun because my friend’s daughter has been super interested in sewing recently. Understandably, kids see YouTubers making elaborate costumes and dresses but the truth is, you can’t start there. You have to start with the basics. So this year, I’ll be helping her learn the nitty gritty of sewing, and here’s my curriculum:
- Seasonal coasters (starting with hearts for Valentine’s Day!)
- Book sleeves & toiletry bag/pouch
- Insulated hot pads
- Oven mitts
- Aprons (half and full)
Personal Sewing Projects
My main sewing goals for the year are to utilize the fabric I already have AND to only buy fabric from thrift stores or estate sales. Since sewing is a puzzle and relaxing I want to spend time working on one pattern and perfecting it. I also want to learn to patchwork quilt this year. Here are some of my inspirations for that.
I have quite a few clothing pieces I would like to add to my wardrobe this year, including some jean projects but I’m a little concerned with time. For right now, my goal is to start patchworking squares and making some of the pieces above.
Knitting Goals for 2024:
Finish Ongoing Projects
First things first – completing my ongoing projects is my top priority. I’m currently tackling the sleeves of my No. 9 knit from last winter, and it’s proving to be quite a lengthy process. Between my end-of-year travels and the inherent challenges of the pattern, it’s become a labor-intensive task. I’ve even had to redo one sleeve four times(!), resorting to documenting every row and checking them off as I go.
Moving on to my tank top – I had high hopes for this one, but I chose a different skein than the recommended, and now? Well, it’s a much larger size than intended. I’m concerned about its lack of structure and I may be restarting or repurposing it for another project. To top it off, I’ve come to realize that the colors I chose might not complement my skin tone as well as I’d hoped – womp womp. Nevertheless, I’m still excited to see the end result. It may still surprise me.
Future Knitting Projects
Once both of my projects are done, then I’d like to start tackling some advanced patterns. I would love to learn cables this year and think I will invest in another thick merino wool sweater. Here are a few pins from my Craft Ideas Pinterest board…
I’ve set quite a few goals for the upcoming year alongside my blogging dreams! Although my travel plans are still in the early stages, I’m incredibly thrilled about what 2024 has in store. I know this is a year of significant growth and change for many of us.
That said – What are your hobby-related aspirations for 2024? Are there particular projects from the list that you’d be interested in seeing me share in the coming year?
Happy crafting, my friends!

That friend’s daughter now really wants to make something similar to the costumes from Six 😂 she was reminded about starting with the basics.
