Visiting The Urban Craft Fair This Year

Hello, my friends! I mentioned last week that Shanna and I had an adventure, to see the PNWB’s Nutcracker. I also mentioned that we got to check off another holiday bucket list by Visiting The Urban Craft Fair This Year!

This fair comes around twice a year but this is the big one.

Visiting The Urban Craft Fair This Year

This year was better than the last time we attended. I thought it was a lot more memorable and there were so many artists I’d never heard of. The ratio of artistry was perfect too. In previous years I used to walk around thinking “okay but I can make that” because I’m a sewer.

I felt like I couldn’t make half of the items we saw which got me really excited.

Different types of artists

There was everything you could imagine and, trust me, you wanted everything too.

  • Home-spun and dyed yarn
  • Handmade luxury soap
  • Leatherwork
  • Mixed media art
  • Pottery
  • Tea
  • Illustrated stationery
  • Metalwork

You name it they had it. They even had cookie dough! Like, come on!

Was it worth it?

Yes!

Oh my gosh, there were so many fantastic items at this fair that we ended up going back after the nutcracker. We wanted to get a few more pictures and make sure we didn’t want to buy anything. In all honesty, I found more things for myself than for my family.

There were a few pieces I knew they would love but they were out of my price range for Christmas.

I will say everything was pricey but not priced inaccurately. As a seamstress, I know how long it takes to make one item of clothing. Hours! So, even if you’re paying yourself minimum wage for your time… it’s still at a higher price point than at a local department store. That said, these pieces will absolutely last longer though.

It was all quality over quantity. For sure.

What I bought!

I ended up buying a few items from two different artists. You guys know I absolutely love illustrated stationery. I follow multiple channels on youtube and have been looking for an artist to support locally. I also picked up the most amazing soap ever!

It smells fantastic and the ingredients are fantastic for your skin. 🥰

Here are the artists:

  • Lin’s Vegan Soap from Vashon Island, WA. I bought two bars!
    • Blood Orange Loofah Soap – using right now. It’s amazing.
    • Lemongrass – the shea butter will be perfect for my dry skin this winter
  • It’s Cathy Wu a Seattle-based freelance designer and illustrator. I bought two cards!
    • Thankful to have some bunny like you
    • You’re my gyro

Genuinely excited to check out next year’s fair. I hope to have a better plan for gifts and a higher budget for myself. There were a few pieces of art I would love to snag in the future so I made sure to grab business cards for those I want.

Does your city put on a local craft fair as well? I’d love to hear about it!
