11 Ways to Get Rid of the Monday Blues
Hello, my darlings! It comes every 7 days. It’s a ball of stress. It’s a reminder that being an adult is hard… You guessed it. Here are 11 Ways to Get Rid of the Monday Blues.
I don’t know about you but when Sunday comes around, I wake up bummed that I only have the next 24 hours to self-care, take care of business, and rest before my Monday morning workday. It’s not that I hate my job or my work. I like what I do and I adore the people I work with. It’s simply that, work isn’t something that brings me great joy. It’s, well, work…
11 Ways to Get Rid of the Monday Blues
Since this is something I struggle with every weekend, I figured I can’t be the only one. So, I thought I would share what I do to help ease the Sunday-scaries with you.
Tidy up
This may seem obvious, but really… tidy up. I didn’t say CLEAN. That’s something completely different and not something I want to do on my days off. I actually clean throughout the week. Tiding up is putting things away, making sure everything is off the bed, and having your place feel at home while you’re there.
Meal prep
I do this every Sunday. It’s arguably the one thing I look forward to the most because I love cooking. If you’re new to meal prep, start slow by making rice, a veggie & tofu stir fry, and then a savory soup! Add to Tupperware containers and you’ve got easy lunch/dinners for the next 5 days. No need to think, just heat & eat!
Buy flowers
This is a vice and it makes me so happy every week when I pick these up. They make my house feel less dreary for the week ahead.
Make a list and get organized
I tend to do this Friday night. I write down everything I need to accomplish over the weekend. From making returns, dinner with my parents, to going to my local book store, etc. I love a checklist.
Exercise
This is super important for mental health but also helps with the Monday Blues. Those endorphins bring joy and lessen stress/anxiety for the week to come.
Set your goals and intentions
Another thing I love to do is write down all my goals for the week and also set my intentions. Sometimes it’s as little as writing down my mantra in my planner for the week. I love keeping these simple, practical, achievable, and positive. This allows me to take accountability for the choices I am making in my life and be proactive.
Go to bed early
I cannot express this enough. This is probably the biggest key to success to get rid of the Monday Blues. Going to be early and be completely rested for the week ahead. Best idea ever.
Unpack or unwind
If I’m coming home on a Sunday, the best thing you can do to set yourself up for success… is to do the dreaded: unpack. No really, don’t let it sit. Unpack immediately or else your suitcase will be open on the floor for the entire rest of the week. Trust me! As a recovering procrastinator, do yourself a favor… just unpack.
Have “me time”
It’s so important. Take an hour to focus on your mind, body, skincare, etc. I love brewing a nice cup of tea, putting on lotion, slipping my feet into slippers, and reading for an hour. It’s the little things that get you ready for the week.
Maximize your time with friends & family
Call your parents, see a friend or schedule a happy hour to have something to look forward to in the upcoming week. Part of setting my intentions often falls on social activities because it’s harder for me to do them after work. So I maximize this time on the weekends.
Write it out
Journaling is a part of my weekly routine but more so on the weekends. I love writing everything down. What my hopes and dreams are and updating my future self on historical events, etc. Reading these and remembering how I felt is humbling. It’s also so amazing to see how much you’ve worked on yourself in such a short amount of time.
That’s it, my friends! I would love love love to know how to beat the Monday Blues. What are your tips and tricks? Did I miss anything important?
Hope this helps set you up for success.
