Audiobook time!
January 2022
First Love, Take Two by Sajni Patel
4.5 Stars – This is the second in The Trouble with Hating You series. I listened to the first book in All The Audiobooks I Listened to Last Year (2021). I loved that book so much, that I was excited to into Preeti & Daniel’s story. Ohhhhh Daniel. I have SUCH a crush on hotty hot Daniel and I just adored Preeti. I felt like I would be friends with her because she’s always doing what’s best for others and I used to be a lot like that.

If the Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy
4 Stars – I didn’t have high expectations for this book and ended up adoring it and recommending it to my Mom. It’s a modern-day twist on a plus-sized Cinderella mixed with The Bachelor. Intrigued? You should be! Cindy is a delight/fashion designer. You will love her and her chemistry with Henry immediately.

The President’s Daughter by James Patterson & Bill Clinton
2.5 Stars – As my first political thriller, James Patterson AND Bill Clinton, I wanted to love this book. I did not love this book. I will give this genre another go but I don’t think JP is for me, despite how much I wanted to finish the book just to see what happened.

You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero
2.5 Stars – Looking back, I don’t remember much of this book. It was very much from the author’s perspective and I didn’t write a Goodreads review somehow. I remember it being upbeat and encouraging mantras to help feel money at the forefront of your day.
The Dating Plan by Sara Desai
4 Stars – I love this author. I started this series because I love the reader of Sajini Patel’s books and they’re the same. This is another Indian romance series that I just really enjoyed – even though I started on book 2 by accident! I liked the MC, Daisy, and how she slowly allowed Liam back into her life. They are both stubborn through and through making it a witty and funny listen.

If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane
4.5 Stars – There were a lot of things I loved about this book. Laurie is in her late thirties. 💕 You see her go through a breakup with her boyfriend of 18 years. She’s not sure what to do with her life. I could relate to everything Laurie was going through. You end up being friends with her in the end and wishing her the best life imaginable.

Wicked by Jennifer Armentrout
3.5 Stars – Ummmm hahaha! I should have known what was to come after reading From Blood & Ash on my January B&B review. I should have expected Fairies (Fae?) but, alas, I did not. Here’s the deal, Jennifer Armentrout is amazing at cliffhangers so naturally I had to listen to book 2. Ivy has a steamy relationship with Ren and I like them… in this book (more on that later). I liked the basic plot and recommend this book the most out of the trilogy.
Brave by Jennifer Armetrout
2 Stars – I cannot STAND Ivy anymore. She turned into an insufferable destructive child. Very similar to how Bella was in New Moon. Like, just no. I didn’t finish this book (nor count it in my total) but understand… I literally couldn’t finish the last 21% of it. That says something.
The Singles Table by Sara Desai
4 Stars – I LOVE every auntie in Sara Desai’s books! I cannot get enough of them!! Haha! I also genuinely adored Zara and Jay. Oh my word, I was dying over her Dad’s art exhibit and the hockey game. This book is such a joy. I have a few Goodreads notes but all in all, didn’t write a review but I loved it.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
5 ROYAL BLUE STARS – You guysssssss … I love love love love this book. It was my first LGBTQ Adult Romance and I could not get enough of Alex and Henry. I don’t know why it took me so long to pick it up because I loved this book so much that I didn’t want to finish it. Because if I finished it, there wouldn’t be any more to read. I laughed, I cried, I cheered! … READ OR LISTEN TO THIS BOOK.

The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory
3.5 Stars – I didn’t realize this was a part of a series… again. 🤦♀️ However, this could have been a stand-alone book and been just fine. Okay, to Nick & Carlos. They had some cringe moments that I couldn’t handle but I loved their meet-cute. What I didn’t love was their big conflict fight. Carlos said some things that I would have never forgiven him for and I would have walked away from the whole relationship, despite their steamy chemistry. That said, I love Nick and her relationships with her girlfriends.

Love, Lists, and Fancy Ships by Sarah Grunder Ruiz
4 Stars – Guysssss… ughhhhh this one pulled at my heartstrings and honestly left me feeling down and depressed every time I pick up this audiobook… Trigger Warning: death of a family member off-page. That said: I really enjoyed it!!! I love Joe’s relationship with her nieces.

While We Were Dating by Jasmine Guillory
4 Stars – Yes Yes Yes to everything Ben & Anna! This is a modern Notting Hill trope and I loved every moment of these two getting together. There was so much talk about mental health, finding happiness in yourself, and not seeking approval from others (and family). I loved their temperaments and how Ben just couldn’t get enough of Anna. 💕 Very out of order in this series as this is #6 but that’s just how I roll. Haha!

Party of Two by Jasmine Guillory
3.5 Stars – Okay, super skipping around in this series (#5) but going off of what’s available at the library! Max & Olivia, aka the Junior Senator & the Lawyer. The best words to describe this book are tame and mature. I didn’t feel the chemistry with these two as much as in the last book, until 48% of the way through the book but it got steamy! They communicate well with one another. I love how Max wasn’t in a position to rush anything and how Olivia initially thought he was going to be a one-night-stand. This is a great beach read/listen.

You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria
4 Stars – Ummmm if you like super spicy (like 4 chili peppers spicy), you’ll love this book. I was blushing throughout listening to this one. You get the conflicts and trepidations from both MCs throughout the book but what kind of bugged me was how little I felt they actually knew of each other. I liked the plot and the telenovela show. It was very different from anything else I’ve listened to over the past year.

Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
4 Stars – I gave this book 4 stars because I really fell into this universe quickly. I was angry throughout the entire novel specifically because it’s hyper misogynistic, to the point where I wanted to scream. This was my first LGBTQ Young Adult Fantasy book and I loved the strong heroine principle and think all teen girls should read it just because the patriarchy is BS and this is a great example of how unfair it is, was, and can be. There, I said it. The End.

My Darling Duke by Stacy Reid
4 Stars – You guys! This was the second historical romance audiobook and I’m happy to say, I’m cured. 😍 This book was so much better than the other book. Even though it was predictable at moments, it was engaging, full of sweet moments between house staff, wit and sharp-tongued dialogue, and feminism (despite the era) which, I’m all about. Plus, the MC’s name is Kitty, which is my nickname soooo loving that.

Goals for Q2/22
I’m still venturing into new book categories for Q2. I’m hoping to get a few thrillers, mysteries, and another attempt at a financial self-help book. Since the majority of my audiobooks are listened to while I’m on my daily walk or driving, I primarily stick with New Adult Romance because they’re upbeat and, well, make me happy!
Questions for you:
- What’s your favorite book genre?
- When do you listen to audiobooks?
- Where do you get your audiobooks?
- What are your audiobook goals for Q2?
Happy adventures, through reading!
