The Best 7 Things to Do in Charleston Solo
Hello travel loving friends! As many of you know, I recently got back from my epic solo road trip through the south. I swung into Savannah, Charleston, Asheville (and a last minute change of plans to upstate New York).
This trip was a self care gift to myself. I hadn’t taken a true vacation for well over a year. Just ask my 227 hours of PTO in my company’s account. If you’re looking for a sign to take PTO… this is it!
My time of in Charleston was nothing but adventurous. I realized once I got there, I didn’t do much research. Due to that, I had to get creative in what I actually wanted to get out of my solo trip. So these 7 activities are unique and fun. I hope you love them just as much as I did.
Here’s: The Best 7 Things to Do in Charleston Solo!
The Best 7 Things to Do in Charleston Solo
After writing 7 things to do in Savannah, I had to match it with Charleston! There’s tons of little secret spots all along this historic city. I plan to chat about food, famous spots and must sees in future posts so keep an eye out.
One // Take a 2-Hour Walking Tour
This was something I booked at the last minute and am so happy I did because, again, I didn’t do any research on Charleston! Our tour guide was fantastic and there were only three of us so it was super personal. Questions were encouraged and sneakers were a must.
I went through Viator to book my tour and super recommend due to their refund & cancellation policy. I wanted to take the Lost Stories of Black Charleston Walking Tour and the Historic Women of Charleston Guided Walking Tour but they were all sold out. I took the Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour! Don’t forget to grab a $5 or so for tip!
Two // Shop & Snack Through the Historic Charleston City Market
Omg the Historic City Market the only place you need to go for souvenirs and everything authentically Charleston. This is where I picked up cajun and jerk chicken spices, candied pecans for my parents and all of my postcards! I snacked as I went because I couldn’t resist the goodies.
This isn’t a market like pike place but more of a craft market then a fruit, deli, etc. There is a spot for lunch though and public bathrooms.
Three// Take a Candle Making Class
I had been debating on book a candle making class at CANDLEFISH after stumbling on their website from another website. It’s honestly one of the highlights of my entire trip.
It was such a fun experience. I was in a very small class with an awesome instructor. You get the two candles, that you make, and then 15% off everything in the store. It’s $10 to ship home, which I did because I only brought a carry on. 10/10 recommend!
Four // Get a Drink at a Rooftop Bar!
You cannot be surprised that I found a rooftop bar, during sunset, on a beautiful 75* day!
Check out The Citrus Club which is located on top of The Dewberry Hotel. I got their Calypso Chips & Mango Salsa (to die for) and The Hawk’s Perch cocktail (because #gin)!
Five // Take a Secret Food Tour of Charleston
This I didn’t get to do due to my food restriction but, y’all, it’s my dream to do a food tour. Especially a secret food tour! This one you can book through Viator. It’s 3 hours and comes with snack, drinks and food tasting. Sign me UP.
Six // Get an Organic Facial or Massage
It was probably from the climate change but I had a terrible break out on my back in Charleston. I ended up booking a back facial at Earthling Day Spa and it was sooooo relaxing. If I had more time, I would have booked a massage on top of it. Totally worth it.
Seven // Visit Angel Oak Tree
This was a surprise and delight. Angel Oak Tree is technically 20 minutes outside of Charleston in John’s Island. If you have a car – GO. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything mind blowing but when I got there. I was thrilled. I brought my leftovers, found a picnic table and watched an artist paint the tree for 45 minutes. It’s a great place to find some peace on your trip.
