The Greatest Food Guide to Olympia, WA

Part Two! For the record, I really did try to fit this post into my Olympia Day trip post last week… but, you guys, it was soooooo long. I couldn’t put you through that. So, after some though, I broke it up. Choosing my favorite topic in the world, FOOD, as the focal point. Might I present you with: The Greatest Food Guide to Olympia, WA.

Right off the bat, let’s get truthful: No, I have not been to all of these places in a day.

However, these are all the places that have been recommended to me or I have researched. I tried my best to eat my way through this grand city… but I didn’t stand a chance. Turns out Olympia has some amazing restaurants and is well known for it. They also … have HUGE portion sizes. I took have of every meal home with me.

I put an asterisk (*) next to the places I’ve been to. Everything else was on my list but was either not taking reservations or just not something I wanted on the menu that day.

Enjoy this list!

The Greatest Coffee in Olympia, WA

Olympia Coffee Roasting

They have quite a few locations around the city but I also recommend these coffee shops. Plus, you’re supporting as local as you can be and their coffee is fair-trade! The coffee isn’t bitter and they have a good reputation in the PNW.

Sidewalk Cafe

Great spot to pick up brunch, bagels, and coffee. This place is perfect if you miss out on donuts or aren’t in the mood for a big lunch.

The Greatest Brunch in Olympia, WA

Doos Donuts *

Definitely off the beaten path but 10/10 recommend for their vegan donuts that are only available on the weekends. Pro-tip: Get their early because they sell out super freakin’ fast. I lucked out and got the last strawberry vegan fritter and I was in heaven!

The Park Side

This delightful establishment is very well known for their plant-based foods and their coffee. They have everything from pizza hand pies to bagels with cashew cream cheese. This is a great spot for my veggie & vegan friends.

New Moon Cooperative Cafe

From “build your own omelettes” to northwest smoked salmon benedicts, that should be enough to convince you to go. If not, they have bottomless coffee, vegan options and a mimosa pitcher that’ll serve 4. I’m drooling just thinking about it!

Tugboat Annies *

Great food right on the pier. If you’re looking for a casual spot with great marina views… this is it! Plus, they have my favorite sandwich, a club. These guys offer everything, including kayak rentals. As for food, just make sure to ask what’s fresh and the catch of the day.

The Wayside Cafe & Deli

Another fantastic plant based restaurant. If you’re looking for a big meal with meat substitutes, this place is definitely a place for you to check out. Personally, I’m dying to try out The Norma (fried chickn sandwich with a side of mac & cheeze!).

State & Central

This place doesn’t have a huge menu but they have fried pickle chips. If you know me, that is my overarching weakness. I see it on the menu, I absolutely have to get it. So, I got a side salad and fried pickles and I regret nothing. This place was very popular with the locals for their American classics/comfort food. I would have gotten a beer but we headed out right after.

The Greatest Dessert in Olympia, WA

Juju’s Ice Cream & Frozen Custard

This neo-vintage ice cream shop is right up my alley. An instagrammer’s dream in the heart of the Historic District. They have all the favorites: Ice Cream, Frozen Custard AND Vegan Soft Serve. I almost went, you guys, but I was SO stuffed so I’m adding it here for everyone else who gets to venture in. Know that I am incredibly jealous.

Sophie’s Scoops Gelateria

From milk located in Rochester, WA and from cows that are GMO free, you really can’t get a creamier or local scoop.

That’s the line up, friends!

Hope you found anew place to check out. I can’t wait to head back to try out the other spots on this list. I’m hoping to pop over for another day trip soon. If you have a favorite spot in Olympia, feel free to share in the comments below.
