21 Things Women Talk About On The Trail
On my last hike, with a best friend, I noticed how quickly our topics of conversation changed. We’re at such a crazy time in our lives right now but the bouncing of subject matters had me cracking up. So, I pulled out my phone to take notes. Hence why I’m sharing 21 Things Women Talk About on the Trail.
Going on hikes with girlfriend’s is one of my favorite ways to catch up. Two birds. One stone. We get quality time and a work out in the same session! Plus, nature! The trails are really the best places to hang out.
Anyway, as mentioned previously, it’s a crazy time for a few of my best friends. Especially the ones that are either pregnant, just had a baby or in a new relationship. It’s so fun to chat about the similarities and differences. So much so… well, I’m writing a post on it!

21 Things Women Talk About On The Trail
As a note, these topics aren’t made up. They are actual conversations between me and my friends on a trail in Washington and in California. So, based on a true story, friends!
- Shackets (and how we can’t believe that’s what we’re calling them)
- Tamagotchis (and how they’re back)
- Sex & respective partners
- Curling Iron/Straighteners vs Straighteners (and how we refuse to upgrade til mines dies)
- Current events/news
- Stupid thoughts that prevent you from sleeping (and melatonin)
- Other hikes we want to do this year
- Pregnancy
- Salaries & careers
- At home workouts (and how we’re still not back at the gym)
- Spikes for your shoes in the snow (aka Ice Cleats and how I need them)
- Hiking slower than normal
- How we’re “out of hiking shape”
- Nightmares
- Instagram and mental health
- Weird forest smells (and how you’ll gag suddenly, if pregnant. Haha! Sorry, R!)
- Next vacation (and planning a trip together asap)
- Wedding guest no-nos
- Favorite recipe right now (like this chicken tortilla soup)
- Feminism and the unfair patriarchal system
- What we would do if we won the lottery
I felt like I could have kept going on topics but these were the top matters we chatted about on my last two hikes. This was really fun to compile, even though I had to stop at times to take a few breaks to write it all down. Regardless, I’d do it again!
