Fall Essentials You Need For a Great Day Trip
Well, well, well September. Welcome to 2021. Please be good to us, pleaseeeeee be good to us. 🤞 Fall tends to be a really busy time for me. It’s harder for me to get away. So, I thought I would share some Fall Essentials You Need For a Great Day Trip. Primarily because, that’s all I have time to do: day trips.
One of my favorite day trip adventures is going to farms. Whether they are apple u-pick orchards, lavender farm or my recent sunflower maze trip, it’s a staple for me. My other favorite outing is hiking. I love getting up early on a crisp Saturday morning for a long hike or, if the weather is terrible, visiting a small town with a friend.
Either way, I tend to pack the same items when I’m on my little getaways. I’ve really perfected this list. To the point where I generally grab the same bag to fill up.
Fall Essentials You Need For a Great Day Trip
Some of these are no surprise. They are basic items you should always bring with you but sometimes we’re in a rush or just forget!
Day trips are great though, since they aren’t far from home, you can generally pick up anything you need at a store along the way. This year I’m participating in #SecondhandSeptember so I’m trying really hard not to buy anything new (except for food, perishables, etc). Which means I need to be extra prepared when I head out for my trips.
Anyway… here’s my Autumn Day Trip List!
Clothing
I always run cold. So I definitely grab on or two of the essentials.
- Sweatshirt
- Cardigan
- Light Jacket/Rain Coat
- or Shawl Wrap
Shoes
If you’re going to a farm, I can’t recommend Timberland enough. They are great with dust, mud, rocks, etc. I’ve worn these on impromptu hikes too. They work beautifully. Also – check the weather. Wellies could be your BFF for rain, if you plan accordingly.
- Timberland Boots
- Waterproof Booties
- Rain Boots
Bag
I grab either my backpack or my Madewell leather tote bag (below). It’s honestly so easy to travel with and carry. I bring it with me on most trips. It folds really well into your carry-on. I also grab a reusable bag for day trips, in case I pick up groceries, local goodies, etc.
- Tote Bag
- Bucket Bag
- Reusable Bag
- Gymsack/Foldable Backpack
Food
My blood sugar drops at the speed of light. I swear it. Having snacks and H2O is, arguably, the most important items to have for a successful day trip. I love carrying kind bars, nuts, mints, dried fruit, etc. I also ways bring my hyroflask and a reusable mug because I generally make my own tea before heading out. I’m so happy we’re back to being able to bring our own cups to coffee shops again.
- Water Bottle (with water)
- Reusable Mug (for tea/coffee)
- Granola Bars
- Mints
- Fruit
- Easy to carry snacks
Activities
No matter what the weather is, I bring something to read, write and do. If the weather turns, I might find myself at a coffee shop for a few hours. If it’s nice, I can sit at a park for a picnic. You get the gist. Here are my grab n’ goes.
- Turkish Towel
- Water Proof Blanket
- Book/e-reader
- Speaker
- Journal
- Crossword Puzzle
- Cards
Self Care
Right now, Washington State is back to a mask mandate. I try to bring two, in case something happens throughout the day. I keep a first aid kit in my car but I always bring a small one with me, along with headache reliever, daily vitamins and hand sanitizer. 🧖♀️
- Masks
- Travel First Aid Kit
- Hand Sanitizer
- Medicine/Advil/Benadryl
- Portable Charger/Power Bank
- Feminine Supplies
This was such a fun post to piece together, you guys! You know I love a list. Selfishly this is perfect. Now I can revert back to this post before I head out on a day trip.
Can’t wait to hear what kind of day trips you all are planning to take this Autumn! 🍁
