Books & Bottles: Untamed & Liberty Lake 2018 Gewürztraminer
Bonjour, mon cheris! Really excited to announce that… I finished another book! The level of commitment is so small but, making a reading a priority was tough this month. So, I’m really excited to review my Book & Bottle for the month: Untamed & Liberty Lake 2018 Gewürztraminer.
The Book: Untamed by Glennon Doyle-Melton
A brief synopsis:
Glennon Doyle challenges societal boundaries to encourage all women to live in their upmost truth.
Using stories from her marriage, career and life to show how hard it is to push past societal standards to create your own perfect utopia and find your own happiness. Encouraging all us to kick our fears and face cultural conditioning head on to live freely.
Honest review:
If you have 9 friends coming at you, saying this is an absolute “must read”, it’s “revolutionary” and it’s “going to change your whole life”… you’re going to be disappointed. Which is what happened to me.
Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love how unapologetic Doyle is. How strong her relationship is with her wife and children. How beautifully she tells her stories about them.
There were tons of beautiful moments and stories in this book that I simply adored. Specifically chapters: erikas & beach houses. I even book marked them!
I do recommend this book as a quick read. It flowed really well and I didn’t feel lost at all. There are also some very relatable sections in the book that will absolute resonate with anyone. Like this quote below:
Texting = Better Than Calling. Unless.
Unless you believe that whenever you feel like it, you can just poke me, ping me… and feel so entitled to a response that the next time I see you, you will arrange your face in an injured manner and say quietly, “Hey. You doing okay? I just never heard back…”
… Texts are not the boss of me, and neither is anybody who texts me.
– Glennon Doyle
However, if you’re looking for this book to change your entire life and well-being… this book isn’t going to do that. It is inspirational, but not written for everyone. Even though she touches on race and feminism, which I love… I did not feel like those underprivileged could as easily identify.
Let me explain: It’s much easier to leave an unhappy marriage when there are no financial hang ups and you’re a best selling author that can support three kids on your own. Money makes everything easier. I would have liked for her to touch on this more.
** In all seriousness, if you are looking to escape your current life or situation, I cannot recommend therapy enough. Especially during this insane times. ❤️
Have you read Untamed? What did you think?
The Bottle: Liberty Lake 2018 Gewürztraminer
Adding to my list of uncommon wines… never have I ever had an orange wine before! Hopefully, making this the first of many. I love trying new and different things (like last month’s unique grape) but this one took the cake ascetically.
This wine is from Liberty Lake and can be bought and shipped here.
The vineyard’s notes:
The nose: Tropical.
The taste: … a taste of lemon zest, pink grapefruit, and honey with a tangerine and mango finish.
What I’m tasting:
Definitely tasing a high acidity with this one which is, probably, why the vineyard’s notes are all tropical acidic fruits! If you sip this wine you do get tastes of honey and … almost a floral taste.
What makes this wine unique:
This wine is the most beautiful color of orange. It gets it hue from being fermented on the grape skins for 3 weeks. It’s also unusual to any other Gewürztraminer because it’s made with zero sugar and is dry. This wine is often found to be sweet.
Overall grade: C+
I think this would be really lovely chilled on a hot sunny day (especially with this gorgeous color). We’re currently in Feb right now so it’s not hitting the spot for me. Nor can I figure out what to eat with it. I think you’d want to go salty. One this I DO know is… it doesn’t go with brownies.
Thanks for reading this post on Untamed & Liberty Lake 2018 Gewürztraminer! I hope y’all are loving this Books & Bottles Series as much as I am. I can’t wait to share next month’s with you! 📚
