The Best Sweaters to Buy at the Thrift Store
Happy November, darlings! While all of America is stressed out, I’ve been going through my old posts and photos to give you examples of The Best Sweaters to Buy at the Thrift Store. Why? Well, I need a distraction.
You all know my love for the thrift store. For those that are new to my blog (Welcome!), I’ve been thrifting for roughly 16 years and, over time, have gotten really good at finding pieces that are long lasting. Despite being second hand.
At times, the thrift store was the only place I could shop for clothes, accessories or shoes. There were moments I returned to the thrift store because I was on a budget, like when I decided to pay off all my student loans in 14 months (and succeeded!).
So first and foremost, let’s get this out of the way: There is nothing embarrassing about shopping at the thrift store. With that said, let’s chat about GOALS for finding The Best Sweaters to Buy at the Thrift Store!
Know Your Goals
When I go to the thrift store I always have an idea of what I’m looking for. Sometimes it’s to find something similar to my pinterest board outfits, like my Autumn Style board and Cold Weather Style board. Both have tons of sweaters saved to it and I’ll look through them before my thrift store visit.
Know your intentions before you go into the store or else you might get overwhelmed and walk out with too much or nothing at all. I’m at the point where I’m only looking to fill holes in my wardrobe. I’m using the one new, one out closet method.
Pro-tip: Many thrift stores have a colored tag system and will have a colored tag of the day that’s 50% off. Always ask the cashier when you walk in.
The Best Sweaters to Buy at the Thrift Store:
The oversized cowl neck sweater
Is it a sweater? Is it a dress? It’s whatever you want it to be which is why I love this sweater. It’s really well made, 3 sizes bigger than my normal size and perfectly wonderful for styling up, down or cozy.
The Fitted Wool Cable Knit Sweater
I cannot stress how much I love this sweater because it reminds me of the english county side. I got it for a steal of a deal at the thrift store because it’s old school Eddie Bauer and made of 80% lamb wool. Not bad and ensures a long life if taken care of properly.
The Grandpa Wool Cardigan
Out of all my sweaters, I dare say… this sweater cardigan is my favorite. I got this a number of years ago and it’s still in perfect condition. I call it my grandpa cardigan because my granddaddy use to wear a sweater this color that buttoned up. I wear this cardi all the time, especially as a quick second layer on zoom calls.
Wide Neck Cashmere Sweater
I felt like I won the lottery when I found this 100% cashmere sweater in near perfect condition. It had a hole on the left seam that I patched up when I got home. It was easily 90% off what you’d pay for a brand new one. I bought this about 4 years ago and, when taken care of, it’s sure to last a few year more!
Oversized Short Sleeve Cowl Neck Sweater
Since I already mentioned an oversized cowl neck at the beginning, I’d like to note that this one has short sleeves and is more fitted around the waist. So, I often wear this sweater off the shoulder. I love the details on the sleeve and especially layering long sleeve cotton shirts underneath it.
Patterned Sweater Cardigan
I’m notorious for grabbing a tee and jeans… then freezing. This cardigan was another half price color tag the day I bought it. All the more reason to add it to my wardrobe. Like my grandpa cardigan, this one I love to grab when I’m looking to add a bit of color and trend to my outfit.
