15 Hobbies to do while Social Distancing
Hello my friends! We are just cruising through our Stay Home movement in Seattle. It’s been a really tough two months but I’m determined to do my part. With that said, most people rushed into doing hobbies right off the bat. I had to wait, due to my normal 9-5. However, I was able to check in with family and friends and here are my top: 15 Hobbies to do While Social Distancing.
Each hobby is a single person activity unless you’d like to make it virtually social. Let’s get into it, shall we?
One // Become a Plant Parent
There is nothing I love more than my little plant babies. I have a schedule to water them every Monday except in the spring/summer when they need more. A great plant to start with is a spider house plant.
Two // Learn to Paint Like Bob Ross
With every season imaginable on YouTube and Netflix, this is one of the best ideas on this list! Bonus, listening to Mr. Ross’ soothing voice while he paints. Grab some paint supplies for local pick up or hit up amazon.
Three // Relearn to Run
This is insanely hard to do if you’re not into running to begin with but there are some great apps out there. I recommend Strava and Couch to 5K. Check out my 5 Free Way to Workout at Home for more fitness ideas!
Four // Start or Join a Virtual Book Club
I love this one. My friend Shanna, over at Rainy Days and Clichés blog, wrote a post on 7 tips for hosting a virtual book club and I’m all about it. I don’t necessarily want to host one but I love being involved in virtual clubs like these. Especially when you and your friends dress up!
Five // Become Your Own Barista
I got a hand-me-down espresso machine from my parents 8 years ago and I still use it. Still makes great coffee. Well, when I drink coffee. I’ve seen so many of my friends trying new things. From brewing their own cold brew, to trying espresso and blended up frappuccinos. Nows the time to try new things!
Six // Take Up Letter Writing
That’s right! A hobby that people will love and doesn’t cost that much either. I love stationary and cards. This is a great time to sit down and write all those Thank You cards you’ve been meaning to write or simply snail mail a letter to a friend!
Seven // Improve Your Cooking Skills
I mean, everyone is on this band wagon right now. If you’re not cooking, you’re eating snacks. Here are some of my favorite cookbooks that are perfect to up your cooking levels!
Eight // Journaling
My favorite thing to do before bed is to journal. Sometimes it takes me an hour but it’s a terrific ay to document your own personal history. Your emotions and feelings during this time in your life.
Nine // Puzzle Master
A lot of puzzles are sold out right now, or the deliver is expected weeks out. I recommend checking with friends in the neighborhood or on facebook to see if anyone is interested in a puzzle swap! This way you don’t have to spend extra more and you’re also recycling. The CDC is saying that the virus should only sit on paper/cardboard for up to 24 hours. Which is easy enough to wait on!
Ten // Become Your Own Florist
I buy flowers at my grocery store every time I am able to go in. About 1 to 1.5 weeks these days. I love learning how to arrange flowers on my own. I watched a few youtube views on it, you can check them out here and here. Such a great end result for your dining room table.
Eleven // Sign Up For An Online Class
I have a girlfriend who swear by Skill Share and another friend who swears by Master Class. To be honest, I’ve heard great things about both. I think the main difference is in the price point but it’s a great time to finally learn that skill you’ve been wanting to learn.
Twelve // Photography Hunt
I have a girlfriend who takes pictures of only the prettiest flowers when she goes on her evening walks. Which, I love. She doesn’t even realize that by doing this, she’s improving her photography skills every single day. Personally, I love food photography. Another good idea is to go on a Bear Hunt and take photos of all the teddies in your neighborhood. 💖
Thirteen // Become a Movie Expert
Put together a movie marathon list for friends who need a pick-me-up. Post it on facebook and get other recommendations. this is a great way to keep in touch and see others opinions on your favorite movies. It’s also a great time to catch up on movies that have been on your list.
Fourteen // Learn Calligraphy
Another great youtube or skill share opportunity. Be like Meghan Markle and learn calligraphy for your letter writing!
Fifteen // Virtual Traveling
I saved the very best for last. Here is a list of my top three places to virtually travel to. I will probably add a post on this later because there are so many fabulous place to go.
- The Louve’s The Advent of the Artist
