10 Ways to Bring a Little Magic to Your December
December is here, and it’s the perfect time to slow down, savor the season, and add a little teeny tiny bit of magic to your days. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or simply enjoy the cozy winter season, these 10 simple ways will make December feel festive and fun. Some of them include a few of my favorite experiences to make the season extra special.

10 Ways to Bring a Little Magic to Your December
1. Make Your Takeaway Coffee Extra Festive
As many of you know, I don’t go out for coffee very often. I like to consider that a treat, but during December, I turn it into an extra special festive treat. Think Winter Eggnog Lattes, Gingersnap Cold Brews, or a spiced white mocha. Grab a cute reusable cup or cozy sleeve (like the ones I found on Etsy here and here!) to make the experience feel extra warm.
2. Reflect on Gratitude
It’s never too late to start a gratitude journal. Take five minutes each day to jot down what you’re thankful for. Even small things! Like a quiet morning or your favorite warm sweatshirt. I love using my Day Designer planner (get 15% off with DDAFFILIATE15) for this because it keeps all my intentions and reflections in one spot. It’s also not a huge space. More like a humble reflection. ☺️
3. Go on a Winter Walk
Bundle up, grab someone you love, and take a crisp winter walk. Bring along a vintage thermos of cocoa, or pop into a nearby coffee shop for your warm treat! It’s simple, refreshing, and reminds you to enjoy the season outside of screens.
4. Treat Yourself to a Festive Dining or Seasonal Experience
Make an afternoon special with a holiday-inspired outing. These, in Seattle, are perfect to add a little magic to December:
- Nutcracker Holiday Tea at The George/Fairmount Hotel – elegant, cozy, and perfect for a festive afternoon.
- Seattle Festival of Trees or Teddy Bear Suites at the Fairmount Hotel – all proceeds go to the Seattle Children’s Autism Center.
- Gingerbread Village at the Sheraton Hotel – magical for families or solo adventures.
- Six Seven Restaurant at The Edgewater Hotel – a stunning display of holiday cheer on the pier.
- Rob Roy Bar – goes absolutely crazy and is fully wrapped for all of December.
- Candycane Lane – offers nothing shy of a wonderland treat for kids and adults alike.
5. Spread Holiday Cheer with Baking
Bake cookies, fudge, or other seasonal treats, and invite a friend or family member to join you. The real magic is in sharing time together, trying new recipes, and laughing over flour-covered countertops. Bonus points for creating treats that can be enjoyed by everyone, no matter what you celebrate – or even just making something for the sheer joy of it.

6. Volunteer Your Time
Giving back is one of the most magical ways to embrace the season. Local food banks, soup kitchens, or community organizations always welcome extra hands. It’s a small gesture that leaves a big impact.
7. Add a Magical Little Touch to Your Home
Little touches can transform your home into a warm winter retreat. Think soft blankets (better yet, make one!), candlelight, small wreaths (or felt ones!), or festive floral arrangements. These simple additions can make a room feel festive instantly.
8. Read a Winter-Themed Book or Watch a Seasonal Show
Carve out a quiet evening with a good book (post coming soon!) or a holiday-inspired movie. Pair it with a cozy throw, your favorite mug, and maybe a candle for extra ambiance. I’ll be sharing a post soon on some cozy winter books to curl up with this season, so make sure to subscribe to my newsletter to never miss an adventure!
9. Plan a Small Winter Adventure
Try ice skating, sledding, a short hike, a holiday market, or a scenic drive. Even small excursions can feel festive and magical, especially when paired with sparkling lights or seasonal décor.
Check out Viator’s Seattle donut food tour, Christmas cruise, or Leavenworth Christmastown tour for super fun and easy experiences.
10. Take Intentional Quiet Time
Even five minutes of reflection can feel magical. Journal, sip cocoa, meditate, or just enjoy the quiet. Pair this with a cozy blanket or a warm drink, and it becomes a little ritual to cherish all month long.
December is such a magical month, full of sweet moments, cheer, and little ways to make life feel extra special. I hope you enjoyed these 10 ideas on how to slow down, savor the season, and create joy wherever you are.
