4 Weeks and No Social Media: A Check In

Well hello, dolls! Welcome to my latest social media break check-in. I first shared my goals and thoughts when I started, followed by a two-week update. Now, four weeks in, I’m reflecting on what I’ve been up to, what I miss, what I don’t, and when I might return.

Let’s start with how I’m feeling—honestly, so much less stressed than I was last month. I’m more alert, focused (especially at work), and living at a slower, more intentional pace. In short, I’m doing really well and feeling happy! That said, there are definitely things I’ve been missing…

4 Weeks and No Social Media: A Check In

But before we get into Instagram talk, let’s dive into everything I’ve been up to—turns out, I’m a lot busier than I thought! I used to worry I might be boring, but nope, not at all. So, here’s the latest:

Bull Riding Competition

You can take the girl out of Oregon, but you can’t take Oregon out of the girl! I grew up surrounded by farmland, berry picking on weekends, and stopping at roadside peach stands (love an honor system moment). So, when my friend invited me (thanks, C!) to a bull-riding competition, I couldn’t say no! Cowboys, AND Canadian tuxedos? Sign me up. It was such a fun way to mix up my usual Friday night routine.

Perfecting Recipes

I’ve been working on a sourdough discard waffle recipe and mastering my veggie stir-fry. The issue with stir-fry is that it’s never the same twice because I never use the same ingredients—just whatever I have on hand in my fridge and freezer. I prefer it that way, though! The waffles are getting better and better with every bake. Maybe it’s time to try making actual sourdough…

Car Shopping

My least favorite activity. Apparently, the car I want is super popular and impossible to find in the PNW because it’s the perfect PNW car, and everyone and their mother wants one too. To say it’s been frustrating is an understatement, but I’m staying upbeat and trying my best to be positive about the situation. It’s humbling, to say the least, and I really hope I’m able to find something soon so I can give my sweetheart of a dad his car back. Fingers crossed I can nail something down by the end of next week!

Adventures in Soap Making

Soap making continues to be an exciting learning process! I recently discovered that soap goes through a “gel phase” during saponification, where it gets super hot (up to 180°F). This can be an issue with goat’s milk soaps since high temperatures can scorch the milk, affecting both color and scent. I’m taking notes and making adjustments with each batch, and I think my latest one might be my best yet. There’s definitely a learning curve, but I’m having so much fun experimenting and improving along the way! More on this in the future.

I Joined a Book Club!

Two friends and I decided to start a book club, and we had our first meeting on Sunday! We picked our first book for next month, and the best part? We were all able to check it out from the library! So, we’re officially an eco-friendly and library-obsessed book club. We don’t know yet if we’ll add more members, but we’re open to it. I’m personally excited to read a few books outside of my usual genre—it’s going to be such a fun way to shake up my reading!

At Home Movies and TV Shows

I’ve been loving watching my DVD collection and catching up on a few new dramas from my sister’s Prime account and also the BBC! Here’s a list of what I’ve been watching:

What I Miss About Social Media

More than anything, I miss the social aspect of IG and other platforms. I’ve realized that my stress toward social media is self-imposed, and the dopamine hit it provides… well, is slippery, to say the least – especially with ADHD. I want to use my blog as my main social outlet going forward, but I need to set healthier boundaries to make that work.

When Am I Coming Back?

I’d like to stay off for another month, but I may need to find a middle ground. Maybe I’ll disable the app during the week and only check it/post on weekends. It’s a work in progress, but I’ll continue to share updates! Especially for those who also have ADHD and deal with social media fatigue like me. 🙂

Until next time, friends!
