My Family Vacation at Waitts Lake, WA

Hi Guys! It’s been a long time since I wrote a post about my recent everyday travels. To me, family vacationing is private and I feel uncomfortable sharing them. Maybe because I’m fiercely protective … or because I don’t have their consent to share (I’ve never asked 🤔). However, it’s the most recent thing on my mind that I’d like to share.

So… here’s a bit about My Family Vacation at Waitts Lake, WA.

My Family Vacation at Waitts Lake, WA

To start, let’s talk logistics. I live in Seattle and my brother is in Spokane. He was the one to find Waitt Lake and, since he has the biggest house, it made sense for us to go out to him for a family trip. We did the same thing for Christmas last year. It works out great because I generally tack on an extra week of stay out there.

Even though I work the whole time, I love getting to know new areas and I’m excited to report that I think Spokane is growing on me. It’s a nice escape from city life.

Where and what is Waitts Lake, WA?

Waitts Lake is about an hour north of Spokane on US route 395.

Don’t blink or you’ll miss it! Just kidding. The Lake is roughly 4.5 miles around, which is a good size! It’s also surprisingly deep.

Lake Waitts is primarily known for its fishing. Which, I know next to nothing about. I did hear someone mention how great ice fishing was there. For the record… I would never. That sounds SO cold.

Where we stayed

We stayed in darling little cottage cabins, which my brother coined as “cabbages”. 😂

They were at the Winona Beach Resort which worked out perfectly. We rented three “cabbages” for the 9 of us (and a puppy). They were located right at the lakefront. So, it was great in the mornings to drink our coffee with a view and then hop on our paddleboards and kayaks.

I didn’t take any photos because I didn’t think I was going to blog about this. Serves me right. I truly powered down on this trip. I tried to be present and read my book in the sun when I wasn’t on the water.

What to do

If I’m being honest, there aren’t special tours or anything crazy. There are tons of water sports. Especially if you own a boat. Though, if you stay at Winona Beach Resort they have a market where you can rent everything. Boats, paddle boards, kayaks, and pedal boats!

Here’s what we did to keep ourselves occupied:

  • Paddle boarded
  • Kayaked
  • Attempted to make smores but we had fire issues (so I mostly at chocolate)
  • Floated on the water
  • Read
  • Listened to music and play games
  • Walked around the lake
  • Went to the little mart
  • Met a lot of dogs

We also noticed you could:

  • Camp
  • Go Atv-ing
  • RV camp
  • Go Mountain Biking
  • Fish
  • Go golfing at Chewelah Golf and Country Club (which is a 25 min drive North)

Next year I think we’re going to try and get a cabin around Deer Lake, which is a little bit bigger. We actually swung by it to check it out before heading back into Spokane. It’s a lot more hilly and will be a fun area to explore as a family. Especially if it was some hiking around it.

I guess we’ll find out next year!

Thanks for reading, you guys. Hoping to get three more trips on my docket by January. I’ll keep you in the know.
