My Velvet Holiday Party Dress
Anyone else still getting their Christmas shopping done? I’m almost done but I’ve got a few last minute gifts to pick up for two of my favorite families and their little nuggets. I get so excited shopping for gifts for kids. It’s completely out of my norm to check out the kid section of a store. By far my favorite items I’ve wanted to pick up are a pair of mini Nikes for a 9 month old and a North Face lumberjack plaid coat for a 3 year old. That’s a different kind of Holiday Party than the one I’m talking about today.
Luckily for me, while shopping for gifts, I stumbled upon this amazing velvet black dress…
You guys know I’m a sucker for velvet. I loved velvet the first time around in the 90s and I couldn’t be happier for it’s comeback. I’m gonna fill my closet with crush velvet everything, you wait and see!
There’s something that’s very classy about a velvet black dress. This little number is conservative with a very stylish tie along the neck line. It’s also a classic midi calf length on us petite gals but hits just below the knee on any one taller. I would need to hem the skirt up about 2.5-3 inches to make it look like the mannequin but, honestly, it’s been so chilly and rainy in Seattle that the extra length is welcomed.
This dress is pretty heavy which gives it a luxe appearance. However, it’s also got an elasticity in the fabric to allow a bit of stretch which helps it hugs your curves nicely.
I love how the light reflects off of it and how the rain always rests on it’s surface, keeping me dry, despite the dampness in the air. I paired this dress with my red leather jacket, which you can read more about here, and my favorite black booties by Marc Fisher. My black vegan leather studded clutch is going to be used a lot this season. It’s so easy to grab my lipstick, throw it in and head out the door.
