Off to a bit of a slow start today. I’m working, in real time, to get this post live for you guys. Normally I try to work a head but I’m a blogger with a full time job, that isn’t blogging, so it gets squished between yoga, junior league and meet ups sometimes. Blogging is my creative outlet and this post is one of the reasons I love to do it.
My family used to take summer trips all the time. In fact, growing up, we didn’t have a lot of extra money. Our family trips involved us stuffing clothes into an over night bag and packing up the ol’ suburban for a long drive. Sometimes knowing the destination, sometimes spitting out ideas in the car. We’d pack our discmans and a pile of books, comic books and coloring books. It was normally in the early morning when we were forced to get up but those are the trips I remember the most. They’re some of our favorite adventures!
We’re all grown now. None of us kids have children or significant others, at the moment. This summer came and went quickly and it was near impossible to plan a trip but we found
one weekend we could all get off so we jumped at it. Destination? Coupeville, Wa!
Coupeville, a very very small town in the heart of Whidbey Island on the Puget Sound is nothing but lovely. About an hour and change to drive (with a ferry included) from Seattle. We decided to go with Coupeville for a number of reasons. It’s charming, was drivable, has beautiful Victorian Homes to check out, has a waterfront main street AND is where the 1998 movie Practical Magic was filmed! If you don’t know me, it’s a cinematic staple with me and my sisters. So hitting up this town was a MUST.
We mostly relaxed and I’ll write a post on our adventure later this week for you but today I’m going to talk about my outfit. My very easy going and typical PNW outfit.
I’ve been in the pacific northwest for more than 3/4 of my life. It’s home to say the least. It’s gone through a lot of fashion faux pas moments but it’s always been practical.
My sister shot these photos of me, in a lucky window of time when it wasn’t raining. The sun was setting and the Autumn air was crisp and full of adventure. She suggested going down the path to the sound for a stroll. I grabbed my new green Hunter Boots, a must have, and my North Face puffy vest to break the chill.
The airbnb house we stayed at was right on the water. As close to the water you can get, with one of the prettiest views. More on that later though.
A lot of people don’t know much about Hunters. Only that the PNW and the upper east coast love them. Well, each shoe is one molded boot. There aren’t seams in the boot. So wear and, especially, tear is rare. They’re made from some of the best materials so they last a long time. These wellies are a bit large on a petite gal, like myself. They come all the way up to the bottom of my knee cap but they’re not uncomfortable. I was debating on getting a pair in a kids size because I’ve read that the height is a better fit for petites… but when these were priced matched on Nordstrom, I jumped to purchase.
These boots came in handy during our stay and for that, I’ll be keeping them close to the door this Fall.
